Had 2 highlights on our trip to Nicaragua, one was meeting Carlos and staying at his great Hostal El Pulpo in beautiful Poneloya. Laidback, chilled and very clean are words that come to mind. The rooms with AC are comfortable and the beachiew just incredible. Carlos is a true gentleman and a great host, will come back for sure. Thanks for the good times.

My stay with Carlos at El Pulpo was one of the best I've had in Nicaragua. The place is very clean, highly secure, and Carlos is an awesome host! Very accomodating with excellent English. I had planned to stay one day and ended up staying three, from what I understand this is common.
The place is located right on a very nice quiet beach. Very romantic! Swimming is excellent as well, I couldn't get enough. There is an elevated platform from which one can just lie in a hammock and enjoy the ocean or read a book.
This is an excellent quiet get away, not for the young drunk party animal types. Located close to Leon, 20 km.
La Pantera, Black cat, is my new best friend!

We stayed here for one night, but wished we could have stayed all week! Carlos was very welcoming and made us feel at home. The rooms are spacious and clean and the beach front is stunning. Definitely will make a visit back there one day :)

My There is no words to describe this hostel, you must experience it!
The house is really nice, just next to a completely empty beach. The deck with hammocks is perfect to see the sunset and enjoy the company of the host, Carlos and the other guests that feels like family really. Carlos is just an amazing person that makes you feel like home, more of a friend on a visit in his house then a guest.
This place is just perfect to relax, and with such a familiar atmosphere it doesn't even get boring! I am sorry I only stayed one night, and will for sure come back if I get the opportunity.

My husband and I rented a house on the beach in Poneloya for the month of December, but we actually ended up spending the majority of our time at Hostal El Pulpo. We met Carlos just a few days after we arrived in Poneloya and he instantly made us feel welcome. At Hostal El Pulpo you will be treated more like a friend than a guest.

My favourite feature of Hostal El Pulpo is the private rancho overlooking the ocean. My husband and I spent many days and evenings there relaxing in the hammocks enjoying the warm ocean breezes and beautiful sunsets. We also experienced our first moonset!

The beach in front of Hostal El Pulpo is quiet and clean with great waves to play around in. If surfing in the waves is not your thing you can walk 5 minutes up the road where the river meets the ocean. It's a great place to swim, enjoy a cold beverage and check out what the locals are up to. El Pulpo is very close to many restaurants, bars and convenience stores so whether you want to enjoy a nice meal or just grab some snacks and drinks you'll be good to go.

If you're looking for an affordable, clean, comfortable, relaxing, safe and secure place to stay in the Poneloya/Las Penitas area Hostal El Pulpo is it!

Stayed for one night, only me, my girlfriend and 3 friends in two separate bedrooms. Carlos was the nicest guy we could ever expect and made our stay simply amazing and comfortable. He made us feel like home.
The deck is a really nice place to have some drinks and enjoy the landscape!

After sunrise, we had the whole beach just for us - NO ONE ELSE ON THE BEACH! Incredible!
Go there, don't think twice!

Carlos runs an amazing hostel on Poneloya beach, which was practically our private stretch of golden sand in this undiscovered gem of Nicaragua. Only a 20 minutes drive from Leon, we had the best of both worlds.
The house itself is gorgeous, and has been meticulously cared for- it's Carlos' family's home which has been converted into guest quarters. There's plenty of hammocks to laze around in, beautiful antique furniture and lots of fresh ocean breeze running through. There is a dormitory with only 5 beds at reasonable prices, and three private rooms, some with AC, although a fan will do at night. We watched stunning sunsets every day from the wood/ thatch platform right on the beach, pelicans diving- absolutely heaven!
